Bastar - Part 8 - Teerathgarh Falls
Today’s plan was to visit “Teerathgarh Falls” and then to camp around “Chitrakoot Falls” for the night since you will get to view this majestic waterfall during both times of the day. But we got to know that too many tourists were camping there. Hence the team of Unexplored Bastar decided to take us to yet another interesting place called “Valley of Fog” for camping and overnight stay.
Post breakfast, we bid adieu to Shakeel sir and our lovely
tribal hosts in Bodal for hosting us. And then we headed towards our first spot of the day – Teerathgarh
Falls.
Teerathgarh falls
It took almost an hour for us to reach Teerathgarh from Jagdalpur. We reached parking lot at around 10 am but were shocked to see
huge crowd in this area. It was like a big fair going on with kids running
around, people are having food and resting on the lawn areas. After staying in
a place filled with tranquility for the lasts couple of days, it took some time
for us to sink into this place. We got off from our vehicle and started
walking towards the entry ticket checkpoint where we had to buy tickets to
visit the falls. From here you will need to walk till the falls entrance and as
you walk you will find lot of shops on both the sides.
From the entry point, there are well designed steps will the first point of the waterfalls. But please be careful with your belongings as you will find lot of monkeys around waiting to grab stuffs from your hand.
The steps are quite steep. So people with knee and joint paints please think before descending down these steps since ascending will be too tough. Finally we reached the first point of the waterfall.
If you go furthermore down, you can reach the base of the falls. We decided not to go since we found a huge crowd down there playing and bathing in water which was little scary in the current ongoing situation. But from this point, it was nice to just stand there for sometime to enjoy the panoramic view of the lush greenery around. Our Unexplored Bastar Trip Lead told us that around thousands of years ago, the cliffs were struck down by a lunar crater with an earthquake, and the staircase made by it created this panoramic waterfall.
Next was the tough task of ascend, taking the same steep steps up-to the parking lot. We started walking continuously and did not stop since our momentum would break and reached the parking lot in one go.
You will find rest rooms at the Parking lot, but they are not well maintained at all. This is something Chhattisgarh tourism department should really think about working towards.
We were starving by now. So we headed straight to Ritu Family restaurant for lunch. Punjabi style cuisine was available here and it was good.
Memory Pillars of Bastar Tribes – Gamawada
These memorial pillars are easily noticeable from the main road, erected on either side of the road in patches. The paintings on these pillars symbolize unique tribal ways
of life. The colorful attractive pillars made in cement, stone or wood depict
details in remembrance of the deceased person's hobby, dreams, lifestyle, and
the reason of his death.
After clicking pictures here, we headed towards our last spot of the day Mendri Ghumar which is also called "Valley of Fog" and I will be covering the details of this place in my next blog.
