Ladakh - Part 1 - Enchanting Welcome by Rugged Hills and Snow-Clad Mountains

Ladakh will be in the bucket list of most of the travel addicts. Hence it was there in my list as well. And Bollywood movies like “3 Idiots”, “Jub tak Hai Jaan” enhanced my craving to visit this place. And this wish came true in May 2016 where in finally I got an opportunity to visit this place that left startling memories in my mind.

We made bookings for this trip from MakeMyTrip (MMT)since back then I was not aware of these wanderlust travel groups. And I pulled one of my dear friend to explore this enchanting place with me.

Day1 : Arrival at Delhi

We boarded our flight from Bangalore and reached Delhi a night prior since the Leh flight was scheduled for departure early in the morning. So MMT had made all the necessary arrangements for us. Refreshments for the interim stay in Delhi were provided at MMT supported longue in a Hotel with return airport transfers.

Day2 : Delhi  - Leh By Flight

In the morning, we boarded our flight for Leh. People who have altitude sickness, please consult your doctor and take the necessary medications with you which is very much required in this place.

The flight journey to Leh also has its own appeal(Similar to Bhutan). When you’re about to reach Ladakh, you will get a glimpse of snow laden mountains greeting you. Then after some distance, you will see snow disappearing and only the silent plain mountains and yes here comes the tiny Leh airport. By the time we could sink in this view, we had reached Leh.

On arrival, a Make My Trip representative greeted us and we were transferred to our hotel in Leh. We checked-in to our hotel and we were asked to take rest for the day in order to get acclimatized.

Arrival day at rest is recommended by everyone because I have heard stories of people falling sick who set off to explore right on day of arrival. So would advise everyone to follow these guidelines very strictly.

Our MMT representative told us that since we are reaching an altitude of 4000mtrs approximately from 200mtrs in just one hour’s time, it is our body which needs to get acclimatized to such height and climate. So we sincerely followed these guidelines and took rest whole day.

In the evening we just took a stroll around our hotel to explore and get a view of Leh town.

We were super excited with the first glimpse of this place and could imagine what is going to unfold in front of us for the rest of the week from this mesmerizing place. I will be sharing all these experiences in my upcoming blog series on Ladakh.
