Exploring Lonavala - Viewpoints Offering Enthralling Views in Monsoon

After having a yummy lump sum brunch at Lohgadh (Blog)we then set off to explore some of the touristy spots of Lonavala.

My driver told me that he will first take me to the most famous viewpoint of Lonavala - Lion Point. Drive up to this point is quite scenic.

While driving along the route, we came across Lonavala dam and lake.

My driver said that he will stop while returning to click pictures of the lake.

Lion’s Point

This is a scenic viewpoint to get a view of the spectacular lush green valley especially during monsoons. But its too crowded. Lots of shops around with vendors chasing you to get food from their shops like chai, pakoras etc.

There are railings all along this point. So its really safe to stand at one point and click pictures.

We also saw a camel and horse there at the parking. Looks like they offer a quick ride along the valley. We also spotted quad bikes parked but didn’t find anyone riding them.

Lonavala Lake

While returning I asked my driver to stop at the Lonavala lake to click some pictures. This lake offers picturesque views with lush greenery around and mountains in the backdrop. You can park your car here and enjoy some yummy delicacies like vada pav, corn from the food stalls parked along the road.

Then again we drove along the Lonavala dam

Rajmachi Point

This point is located on the way to Mumbai from Pune, just before the starting point of the ghat in Khandala. This point offers spectacular views of the surrounding lush green valleys, tiny waterfalls along with vehicles moving around the Mumbai-Pune expressway.

There is also an “I Love Khandala” selfie point here.

From there we drove to another point where we could see vehicles moving around both the old and new expressway.

After this we drove to Lonavala town to buy the most popular local delicacy "Chikki" as a souvenir from here.

Maganlal Chikki

Lonavala is famous throughout India for the hard candy sweet known as “Chikki”. This is eaten as a snack in which crunchy materials like roasted groundnuts, sesame seeds, cashew nuts are kneaded into a hot viscous solution of jaggery into slabs that set hard.  Maganlal Chikki is very famous here and the leading player in this business. Wherever you go in Lonavala, you will find shops of “Maganlal Chikki”.

After savoring this yummy delicacy from Lonavala, we next set-off to visit two of the most important caves in Lonavala which are a complex of ancient Buddhist Indian rock-cut caves. I will be explaining about these in my next blog.
