Bastar - Part 10 - Chitrakoot Falls : Niagara of India

Image
As mentioned in my previous blog, we started off early in the morning to Chitrakoot falls from Mendri Ghumar.   We reached the parking of Chitrakoot falls in around half an hour time. From the parking lot, we started walking towards the falls. Since it was early morning, we could see fog around this area. As we continued to walk and the fog started clearing slowly, at one point we could see the top view of the falls and it was sheer beauty. Chitrakoot falls is located on the Indrāvati river. The 30 feet high falls is called “Niagara of India” because of its horseshoe shape. After walking few more steps ahead, we reached the main camping place. Here we could see lot of tents by “Unexplored Bastar” and we could imagine the crowd that we would be anticipating here today. But luckily, they were just waking up. We then got down to the base of the falls through the clearly crafted steps by the tourism department to visit the cave beneath the waterfall where you will find lot of dei

This place is surrounded by scenic valley and is also known as “ Valley of Fog ”. First look, the place looks like a horseshoe shaped canyon surrounded by lush green valley. Hence we can even call it “ Grand Canyon of Bastar ”. The valley is too scenic, and the sheer beauty of this valley cannot be captured in photographs. It just needs to be experienced in person.   We were told that during rainy season, you will find waterfall falling into the gorge from 125-150 feet height. And this water finally makes its way to the mighty Chitrakoot falls. As the sun was setting slowly, the valley was looking even more majestic. We then headed to our campsite which was closer to this point. Couldn’t believe that we would be camping at such an alluring scenic location.  The team of Unexplored Bastar had really done a great job with arrangements – with special toilets for men and women, blankets and mattresses kept in each tent, traditional delicious dinner was arranged by Tribal people with lig

Today’s plan was to visit “Teerathgarh Falls” and then to camp around “Chitrakoot Falls” for the night since you will get to view this majestic waterfall during both times of the day. But we got to know that too many tourists were camping there. Hence the team of Unexplored Bastar decided to take us to yet another interesting place called “Valley of Fog” for camping and overnight stay.  Post breakfast, we bid adieu to Shakeel sir and our lovely tribal hosts in Bodal for hosting us. And then we headed towards our first spot of the day – Teerathgarh Falls. Teerathgarh falls It took almost an hour for us to reach Teerathgarh from Jagdalpur. We reached parking lot at around 10 am but were shocked to see huge crowd in this area. It was like a big fair going on with kids running around, people are having food and resting on the lawn areas. After staying in a place filled with tranquility for the lasts couple of days, it took some time for us to sink into this place. We got off from our v
