Agricultural Sciences Museum

Agricultural Sciences Museum (ASM) is nestled in the huge UASB (University of Agricultural Science, Bangalore) campus, Hebbal. UASB is also famous as GKVK (Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra) campus in Bangalore. This museum tour will take you to the world of agriculture in India – soil types, tools, crops, diseases, technological innovations and many more. If you are interested in farming or are planning to invest in future then please plan a visit to this museum to understand some critical aspects of agriculture.

The main purpose of this museum was to educate people about historical perspectives of agriculture and the latest developments in agricultural sciences.


Parking :  There is ample parking space and no parking fee.


Entry Fee : There is no entry fee into the museum.


Timings : 9:00 am to 4 pm (Monday to Friday). 9:00 am to 12:30 pm (Saturday). Closed on Sunday and general holidays.




As you enter the museum you will find a map of the museum. This museum is divided into 6 sections/galleries –

  1. Main office
  2. History of agriculture, Agriculture in Karnataka, Genesis and growth of UASB
  3. Soil, water, crops and cropping systems
  4. Plant diseases, insects, Agri-microorganisms, seed technology, bio-technology, genetics and plant breeding
  5. Sericulture and apiculture
  6. Technological innovations in Agri-industry

 





 





Some Facts about UASB - Her excellency Maharani Kempa Nanjammani Vani Vilasa Sannidhi, the regent of princely state of Mysore donated 30 acres of land for Agricultural Experimental farm at Hebbal during the year 1899. Dr Lehman , a German Chemist was appointed to set up a laboratory to examine soils of the state and suggest measures for their improvement. He established a well equipped chemistry laboratory in which building the Directorate of agriculture is functioning even today. Later under the initiative of the Dewan of Mysore Sir M. Vishweshwaraiah, the Mysore Agricultural Residential School was established in 1913 at Hebball which offered Licentiate in Agriculture and later offered a diploma programme in agriculture during 1920. 



Krishi Mela is an annual event organized for four days at the University headquarters every year, in which nearly 1,00,000 farmers participate. Purpose of this yearly fair is to raise awareness about the shifting climatic conditions, new crops and emerging technical innovations in the agriculture industry.



In 2021, the university was recognized as the best agricultural university in South India and 3rd best state university in India.

 








The last 3 galleries were closed for maintenance. But just reading through every information shared in the first two galleries itself took us an hour.  Agriculture enthusiasts can easily spend more than an hour here.  


Once you are out of the museum, as you cross the road you will find an outlet selling grown in the campus at reasonable prices. 


Please note that there are no food options available in and around the museum premises. But drive along the university area is really worth it since you will get to fill your lungs with fresh air along this huge green lung space of Namma Bengaluru.
