Chikmagalur - Part 3 - Mullayanagiri: Highest peak of Karnataka

As mentioned in my earlier blog, after bidding adieu to Baba Budangiri peak and pilgrimage center we next set off to visit the highest peak of Karnataka – Mullayanagiri Peak.

Drive from Baba Budangiri to Mullayanagiri was again the same journey uphill with lot of curves and scenic views of the mountain ranges around. We reached the base of Mullayanagiri peak in half an hour. This is the last point of this road and little narrow too. So 4 wheelers need to be careful while driving.

We parked our vehicle at the base and saw the temple on the hilltop with clearly carved out concrete steps. We knew the hike through the steps upto the temple is not going to be easy in the scorching heat with no railings to support either mid-way. So we prayed to lord and started our ascent. But after you take every 10 steps and turn back, you will be amazed with the views that unfold. Its beyond words.

After around 400+ steps, we reached the peak. At this point you will actually feel like you are on top of the world with the splendid views of the hillocks around. Must visit in monsoons.

Mullayanagiri Peak is named after a holy man Mulappa Swamy who seem to have mediated in a cave nearby. Adventure junkies can try their luck to reach these caves.

Once at the peak, you can see a temple on top. Some people got busy to click pictures here and it was too crowded. So we decided to visit the temple at the peak first. There are around 10 steps to the temple.

We did not find a priest here but got a good darshan of the deity residing inside the temple.

We could notice that not many people were at the temple premises. Hence it was very peaceful here. We stood here for some time absorbing the serenity of the place.

From here you will also get a clear view of the trail path from the base up-to the temple

Peak Point

After relaxing here for a while we then descended from the temple to the peak point. Finally, we got one boulder to relax and enjoy the stunning views of the peak around.

We then started our descent back to the base. Descent was comparatively easy as always but we took intermittent stops to click pictures of views from each point. It was truly breathtaking.

Finally we made it to the base cum parking lot. Here you will find some stalls selling coconut water, sugarcane juice,  Maggie, biscuits and most wanted refreshment of the season-ice cream😋.

We took some refreshments and then hopped onto our car to start our return journey to Bangalore with memories of a day well spent with mesmerizing views of the Western Ghats from two of the highest peaks of Karnataka.
