Startling Bevoor with twin hillocks
Bevoor is a small village in Channapatna Taluk, Ramanagara district and Karnataka State. Bevoor is also home to famous temples on hillocks – Sri Siddarameshwara temple and Bettada Thimmappa temple.
We set off from Bangalore
with the plan to visit these two hilltop temples for a half-day tour.
We started from Bangalore at
7 am in the morning and took a pit stop at famous A2B restaurant for breakfast on
Bangalore-Mysore Road. Post breakfast we continued to drive on Bangalore-Mysore
Road until we reached Channapatna. From here you can put on google maps to
Bettada Thimmappa temple first since we had added Siddarameshwara temple, and
the map mislead us once we reached Bevoor.
Upon reaching Bevoor, you will see clear directions to the Bettada Thimmappa temple. From the Village main road, you can take a left and drive towards the hillock.
After driving
along 1 kilometer you will reach a crossroad where the road on the right will
take you to the hillock of Siddarameshwara Betta and upon driving straight you
will reach the hillock of Bettada Thimmappa temple. Both these roads will lead
you all the way to the top of the hillock
We took right first to visit
Siddarameshwara Betta. This is very lesser known and looks like not many people
visit. Hence there are no signboards leading to this temple. You will need to
ask locals for directions.
Drive to the hillock is
enthralling with amazing views of the lush greenery and rocky Mountains around.
You will also get a glimpse of twin hillock Bettada Thimmappa temple as you
drive uphill.
We reached parking lot and were little scared to find out that it was just us on the hill-top. There were neither any visitors nor priest at the temple. So please be careful and ensure you visit this during daylight.
Siddarameshwara Temple –
On a first look, we could spot a barren structure like a Yagya shala and a temple here.
We first decided to visit the main temple here.
You can find Lord Shiva’s idol inside the temple and Nandi
outside. We did not find priest here.
The priest at Bettada Thimmpappa temple told us that the priest is available
only on Monday (Lord Shiva’s day) and villagers will give offerings to god only on
this day.
After this we took a walk
around the temple premises to enjoy the views of the surroundings. This place oozes
out tranquility.
We next visited Yagya Shala. But it seemed like a resting place for devotees.
You will find Small Pond here ( Kalyani). Next to this you will also find some steps down the hill.
We sat here for some time
absorbing the serenity of this place.
We drove and came back to the same crossroad and
then drove straight towards Bettada Thimmappa temple.
Bettada Thimmappa Temple
We prayed to the deity,
thanked the priest for sharing such useful information and came out of the
temple. We sat here for sometime since it was so peaceful here. Then we took a stroll around the temple premise.
You will also find a Kalyani
here. And there are few benches for people to sit and relax.
There are nicely carved stone
pathways around the temple where you can take a walk and enjoy the mesmerizing
views of the surroundings. As you walk, you will also be amazed with the wide
variety of colorful flora laid out all along the entire pathway.
We could spot Siddarameshwara Betta from here
We completed one round of the entire property, clicked some nice pictures and relaxed on the benches for a while absorbing the tranquility
of this place.
If you are looking for a relaxed quick gateway from the Hustle bustle of city life, then this place is worth visiting from Bangalore.
So signing off now from the quaint village of Bevoor with these to lovely hillocks.
