Bettada Byraveshwara temple – Serene temple with enchanting surroundings
It’s new year and here’s wishing everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year 2021. Wishing all of us many more safe, hassle-free travel in the coming year π.
My travel buddies had been planning to venture out on a day’s trip from quite some time. Somehow it did not work. Finally, we decided to initiate this on New Year’s Eve and what a good day chosen to kick-start this. Kudos to them π.
My friends had planned to visit an offbeat place in fact a temple near Tumakuru, Bangalore (India) – Sree Bettada Byraveshwara Swami temple. And in this blog, I will be taking you all on our journey and experience.
Time to destination from Bangalore is around 1 hour 45 minutes. After you cross the Nelamangala toll, you will need to switch on google maps since there are no sign boards which will lead you to this temple.
Google maps will take you to interior villages of Tumkuru. So, you will get to witness the beauty of rural life. Also ensure you take packed food and water with you since once you take the diversion (Left) from National Highway towards this temple you will not see any refreshment outlets.
Temple is on a hill-top but good news is you can take your vehicle there. Also, Shivagange hill (another iconic landmark famous amongst trekking enthusiasts) is just 10 minutes from here. So, post your trek you can plan to visit this temple as well.
We left Bangalore at around 8:45 am and reached there at around 10:30 am. Upon reaching the temple we were amazed with the view that uncovered in front of us. It was so serene and clean there with no one around.
We spoke to the priest to get more information about the temple. He informed us that the temple is around 800 years old and it was renovated with colorful gopuram in Feb 2020. The entire renovation was done in a single day from sunrise to sunset just before the lockdown. Hence people did not get to know about this place. That’s when we realized that, this is the main reason it is so serene here since people hardly visit.
The main temple hosts a Shiv Linga and you can offer your prayers there. When you come out, you will find Parvathi temple on the right and Ganapathi temple right next to it. There is Navagraha temple and Naga katte also.
Inside the temple premises, you will find lot of flora ranging from colorful flowers, veggies, medicinal plants. We took a walk along this admiring the beauty of each plant and identifying them there-by testing our knowledge in this area π.
Post our darshan, there is a nice seating area with a small water spot of stand still water. We decided to sit here, relax and enjoy the enchanting views of the surroundings. The cool breeze was touching our face and it was such a pleasant experience as if it’s a great rendezvous of just you and nature.
We had packed some food from home. And this was the good time and place to have this. All of us had packed our delicacies. Sharing our food and having it on New Year’s Eve at such an amazing place was really the best New Year Celebration for us. Thanks to my friends for planning this π.
You will find rest rooms there which is very well maintained. There is even a tap here to wash clean your hands and legs. But request everyone not to throw plastic here. Please ensure you carry polythene covers to throw your plastic waste.
Overall, this is a perfect place for a day/half-day trip from Bangalore. You can spend quality family time here. Also if you need a break from the hustle bustle of city life, please drive through and visit this place to enjoy your stint with nature.
It was a good start of new year by visiting a temple, taking Lord Shiva’s blessings and spending good quality time with my beloved friendsπ.
Very well written Smita, so inspiring...look forward for more such blogs... Great going π
